John Fredrick Lauthen, 58 of Iowa City, died Friday September 9, 2005 at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics.

Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday September 13, 2005 at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service. Burial at Oakland Cemetery, Iowa City. Rev. Judy Gingerich will officiate. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday September 12, 2005 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in John’s name.

John was born on October 1, 1946 in Ortonville City, MN to Dayton and Margaret (Oswald) Lauthen. He graduated from St. Olaf College with a degree in music. He was the High School band teacher in Edgewood, IA for 17 years. On August 31, 1974 he married Deborah Lentz in Edgewood.

John was a musician in several ensembles. Also, in his free time he enjoyed working on his collections. He was a collector of many things.

He is survived by his wife Deborah of Iowa City, two sons; Brian of Atlanta, GA, Shane (Sara) of Iowa City, two brothers; Mark (Barb) of Iowa, Robert (Ann) of California, two sisters; Jane Allen of California, Mary Gorder (Doug) of Minnesota.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dayton and Margaret Lauthen of Minnesota.
