Funeral services for Charles Benesh, 69, will be held at 2 p.m. today (April 22) at the Brosh Funeral home, Solon, with the Rev. William Harnish officiating. Burial will be in Oakland cemetery, Solon.
Me. Benesh died April 18, following a sudden illness.
He was born near Solon, June 1, 1906, and worked and farmed in the Solon area all of his life.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a heavy artillery cannoneer in Central Europe and Normandy. He was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action, the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. He was a member of the Stinocher post of the American Legion in Solon.
He is survived by 3 sisters, Mrs. Clara Chittick and Mrs. Elma Steadman, Cedar Rapids and Mrs. Mary Mason, Lisbon and 3 brothers, Ed, Cedar Rapids and Frank and George, Solon.
