Terry Gene Clark, 74, died on Saturday, March 11, 2023 at the Bird House – Hospice Home of Johnson County in Iowa City of glioblastoma multiforme.
Memorial Services will be at 1pm on Saturday, May 6, at Lensing’s Oak Hill, 210 Holiday Road, Coralville. Following the service family will greet guests at the funeral home until 3pm. Burial will be at Magnolia Cemetery in Magnolia, IA. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed toward the American Diabetes Association.
Terry was born August 18, 1948, to Robert and Lois (Brown) Clark in Logan, Iowa. He had fond childhood memories of multi-family camping trips, skiing behind the boat his father built, sleepovers at his grandparents’ farm with a multitude of misbehaving cousins, and he participated in the research program at the University of Iowa between his junior and senior high school years.
He earned his first bachelor’s degree from the University of Iowa, then in 1979 he was in the first graduating class of Physician Assistants at the University of Florida. He earned his Master’s degree from the University of Nebraska. He worked as a PA-C in various specialties including neurosurgery, transplant surgery, and electromyography in North Carolina and Florida. He retired from the Iowa City VAMC, in the Spinal Cord Injury clinic where he became an expert on multiple sclerosis.
Terry was curious about everything that moved, living or not, and almost anything that didn’t move. He could take apart anything, put it back together, and it would actually work. He built his own computers. His first love was photography which he returned to in his retirement. He delighted in crisscrossing America to attend photographic seminars. He was a proud member of Stumptown Shooters (a pyrotechnics guild in which he built and displayed fireworks), a voracious reader with almost perfect recall, an excellent chef, a lover of fine food and good whisky, a cutthroat at card games, and he enjoyed watching old movies and tv shows for the nth time.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Marguerite Yeutter of Iowa City; son, David Clark and Sara Jones of North Liberty; sister, Cheryl and Don McFee of Bennington, NE; sisters-in-law, Gayle Lesser of Atlanta and Stella Escuriex of Baton Rouge; nephew, Mark and Leslie McFee and their family; nieces: Jill and Kyle South, Alix and Robert Koscick, and Andree Escuriex, and their families.
He was preceded by his parents and brother, Michael Clark.
