Patricia “Pat” Rehnblom, 74, of North Liberty abruptly passed away March 11, 2023, after a short illness and being diagnosed with cancer only two days prior.
To celebrate Pat’s life, a remembrance service will be held Saturday March 18, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Lensing’s Oak Hill, 210 Holiday Road, Coralville with a reception immediately following. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to her family to be distributed to organizations that were important to Pat.
Pat was born on October 2, 1948 in Camanche, Iowa to Harlan and Doris (Dann) Thomsen. She was raised in Camanche and graduated from Camanche High School. Pat moved to Iowa City in the late 60’s to attend The University of Iowa. Pat ran local bars and restaurant in the area where she formed many lasting and lifelong friendships. She would eventually start her career at The University of Iowa, working several positions before retiring from the Pharmacy Purchasing Department in 2015.
Pat met Mark Tenborg in the early 70’s, they fell in love and married in 1974. Pat and Mark had two daughters, Kari and Kasi before his untimely death in 1983. While their marriage was too short, it was a marriage of once in a lifetime love and family. In 1991, she reconnected with her college friend Owen Rehnblom and they were married in 2001. The couple spent another 20 years together as business owners, frequent travelers, and a life-loving pair before he passed away in 2021.
Aside from her true joy in life of spending time with family and friends that were like family, Pat loved working in her yard which was her therapy and a hobby that she greatly enjoyed. She also loved Hawkeye sports especially football, playing cards, creating table scapes for family gatherings and loved doing anything that would create beautiful memories with her family and friends.
Pat was a consummate mother - everyone knew her as "Mom." She embraced every moment with her two daughters Kari and Kasi and the three have always shared a special bond.
Pat was down to earth and fiercely independent with a thoughtful and caring personality but it was her strength and resilience while facing life's challenges that not only served as great inspiration to her family and friends but also who she will be remembered for.
She is survived by her two daughters, Kari Jean Tenborg and Kasi Tenborg Carroll (Joe) and two siblings Gene Thomsen (Connie) and Connie Swartz, as well as her beloved dog Hershey.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents Harlan and Doris Thomsen, her in-laws, Roy and Donna Tenborg and Florence Rehnblom, both husbands Mark Tenborg and Owen Rehnblom as well as her four legged companion Bailey.
