DEATH COMES TO MRS. E. EDWARDS
OLD RESIDENT OF IOWA CITY AND JOHNSON COUNTY SUCCUMBS TO PARALYSIS
Mrs. Ellen Edwards, who has been bed-ridden for several months following a stroke of paralysis, died at 2:30 o’clock this morning at her home on S. Governor street following a slow sinking spell. It has been known for several days that she could not live a great while longer.
Mrs. Edwards was born in Canarvonshire, Wales, on February 11, 1845, coming to this country with her parents when but a few months old. The family first settled at Dodgeville, Wisconsin, coming to Iowa in 1863. She lived in Iowa City until January 1, 1872, when she was married to Hugh E. Edwards and moved west of the city to the Edwards farm in Union township. There was a brief interval of three years during which time the family lived in Chicago.
Eleven years ago, following the death of Mr. Edwards, Mrs. Edwards moved to Iowa City.
Four sons and two daughters survive. They are Alfred and Ralph, of Iowa City, Willard and Gilbert of Humboldt, Nellie, of Denver, Colo., and Lydia, of Iowa City, formerly bookkeeper for The Citizen.
The funeral is to be held Friday at 1:30 o’clock from the home on Governor street, with Rev. S. E. Ellis, pastor of the Methodist church, in charge of the services. Interment will be in Oakland cemetery.
