Rex R. Cline Sr., 81, of Caroline Court in Iowa City, died peacefully, Friday, September 2, 2005 in his home with his children at his bedside.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, September 6, 2005 at 11:00 am at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City, with Reverend Paul Akin officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. Friends may call Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at Lensing’s. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to Iowa City Hospice.

Rex was born September 23, 1923 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Earl & Esther (Robinson) Cline. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in Cedar Rapids. Rex married Lois McLain June 12, 1949 in Cedar Rapids.

Rex worked as a salesman for the Nabisco Company for 40 years, retiring in 1983. During his career while serving customers in the greater Iowa City area, Rex received numerous top sales awards from Nabisco, as well as safe driving awards. Rex is still affectionately known as the “cookie man”.

Following his retirement, Rex worked part-time at the Hy-Vee Food Store on Rochester Avenue for many years. He volunteered at the Iowa City Senior Center and Mercy Hospital. He was awarded the Governor’s Award for Volunteering in 1998. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Iowa City and Iowa City Moose Lodge #1096.

Rex is survived by his children, Roxie Yetter & her husband Rob of Yukon, OK., Rex Cline Jr. & his wife Nancy of Modesto, CA. and Michael Cline & his wife Angela of Cedar Rapids;
five grandchildren, Chad Cline, Tim Cline & Paige Prescott of Modesto, CA., David Yetter of Yukon, OK. and Michael Yetter of Austin, TX; one great grandson, Gabriel McLain Yetter of Yukon, OK.; a brother, Dean Cline & his wife Vi of Cedar Rapids; and a niece, Sherry Albertson of Zumbro Falls, MN..

Rex was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Betty Jane Grassit and the love of his life, for the last 56 years, Lois. It seems appropriate to say that Rex died of a broken heart after losing Lois 28 days ago.

The Cline family would like to offer their sincere thanks to the staff of Iowa City Hospice for the care they provided to both Rex & Lois, especially Shauna, Margaret, Mary, Melissa & Lori.

On-line condolences may be directed to www.lensingfuneral.com
