Shirley Parker Vorbrich, 93, passed away peacefully on Sunday February 5, 2023. She was born April 30, 1929, in West Branch, Iowa the eldest child of Virgil and Grace Parker. Shirley graduated from Iowa City City High School in 1947 and was united in marriage to William “Bill” A. Vorbrich, Jr., July 18, 1948. They spent 58 years together in the Coralville and Iowa City areas until Bill’s passing in 2006. In 2013, Shirley moved to Des Moines, IA to be closer to family.

Shirley worked at Northwestern Bell as an operator, and then with her husband at Sutton Radio & TV in Iowa City. Shirley was a master gardener and enjoyed nurturing flowers around her homes and vegetables in the gardens. Shirley and Bill loved to travel. There were many trips throughout North America in the Winnebago with family and friends; trips to Europe, the Mediterranean area, and Asia; with a special fondness for Hawaii where for many years they traveled annually.

Most of all, Shirley loved spending time with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Shirley is survived by her son Terry Vorbrich of Des Moines, IA and grandchildren, Nile (Kendra) Vorbrich, Sadie Vorbrich and Dane Vorbrich; daughter Norma (Jim) Vorbrich Boyd and grandchildren Jason Boyd and April (Manolo) Fogg; great-grandchildren James Ide, Anabelle Ide; and Olivia Vorbrich; siblings, Dan (Jan) Parker of Naples, FL and V. Roger Parker of Prescott, AZ; and brother-in-law Lynn (Jody) Vorbrich of Urbandale, IA; and many nieces and nephews and great-grand nieces and nephews.

Visitation and services will be at the Gay and Ciha Funeral Home, 2720 Muscatine Avenue, Iowa City, IA, on Saturday, February 18, 2023. Visitation for family and friends begins at 10 Am with service to follow at 11 Am. Burial will follow the funeral service at Oakland Cemetery.
