Scott Drake, 63, of Coralville passed away at his home after a brief illness on Wednesday, February 8th, 2023. Scott was born on March 6th, 1959, in Clinton, IA to David and Shirley (Chandler) Drake.
Scott grew up in Muscatine and graduated from Muscatine High School. He attended the University of Iowa earning a B.A. in General Studies with an emphasis in broadcasting and film. On February 1st, 1997, Scott and Kelly Howard were united in marriage in South Lake Tahoe, California.
Scott worked as a student in the University of Iowa Video Center in the early 1980’s before moving to California to work in video production at the University of Southern California where he became an avid USC Trojan fan. He returned to the UI Video Center in 1987 as full-time staff, where he worked on several award-winning productions, and eventually advanced to the position of Writer/Director/Producer. He transferred to the UI’s Division of Continuing Education (now known as Distance and Online Education) in 2002, where he supported many faculty, departments, and colleges, including the College of Nursing's early online courses as well as Tippie College of Business’s Iowa MBA program. Scott's clients and coworkers/friends could count on his steadfast contributions to the courses and projects on which he worked. He was a calm, steady, and reliable colleague, who never had an unkind word to say. Scott was patient and kind, and he had a fine sense of humor—which he divulged when the occasion was right.Scott was a natural athlete. He played tennis for Muscatine High School and enjoyed playing on tennis leagues through the United States Tennis Association, but his real passion was golf. Scott would play in any weather if he could find a course that was open. He was considered to be a gentleman of the game by his many golf buddies.
When not on the golf course, he enjoyed sushi and a glass of champagne with his wife Kelly and a night out at Riverside Theater, the Englert, or Film Scene.
Left to honor his memory is his wife, Kelly, his parents, David Drake and Shirley Milder, David’s wife Karen, his brother Dan Drake, and his wife Jenny of Marion, and their 3 children, Kean, Kailey, Kailey’s wife Sarah, and Kelsey. His brother Kevin Drake, and his wife Lori of Dubuque, and their 2 children Amanda, her husband Ben, and their 3 children Connor, Brevin, and Griffin and Sean and Sean’s daughter Finlee. His sister Megan Drake, and her husband Cody of Urbandale.
Scott’s life will be celebrated at his “Happy Place” Finkbine Golf Course on Sunday, June 11th from 4:00-7:00 PM and through the lives he improved with organ donation.
