Eleanor B. Engen, 91, died peacefully Sunday, January 29, 2023.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM, Wednesday, February 1, 2023 at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City. Visitation will be from 10 AM to 11 AM, prior to the funeral. A luncheon will follow the service. Burial will be at Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Iowa City Public Library Foundation or to the Eleanor Engen Memorial Fund.

Eleanor was born February 27, 1931 in Pocahontas, IA, the daughter of Lonnie and Ruth (Wenell) Britt. She was a 1948 graduate of Albert City High School, Eleanor received her teaching certificate from Buena Vista University and later completed her bachelor’s degree at the University of Iowa. On June 1, 1952 Eleanor Britt married Harold Engen in Linn Grove, Iowa.

Prior to starting a family, Eleanor taught elementary school. She later worked as a research assistant at the University of Iowa.

Eleanor was a member of First United Methodist Church, TTT, and University Club. She was an avid reader, Hawkeye fan, and enjoyed playing bridge.

Eleanor is survived by two children, Steve (Becky) Engen of West Allis, WI. and Carol (Steve) Cline of West Liberty; two granddaughters, Alex and Addison; great-grandchildren, Amelia and Myles; her sister, Deloris Britt of Storm Lake, IA.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 2005; and siblings, Ilona, William, and Shirley.
