Carol Jean (Beermann) Janssen died on January 29, 2023 at Legacy Gardens in Iowa City, Iowa after a long illness.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday February 13, 2023 at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa.

Carol was born May 11, 1945 to Walter and Leone Beermann in Denison, Iowa. Her childhood was spent on the family farm in Crawford County. She graduated from Denison High School in 1963 and furthered her education at Morningside College and graduated from State College of Iowa with a BA in 1967.

Carol taught junior high mathematics in Urbandale and Ottumwa before training in computer programming and beginning work for Iowa Workforce Development in 1971. She worked for the State of Iowa for 36 years and retired in 2007.

Carol married John Janssen in June of 1973. She and John lived on acreages in Mingo and Bondurant raising Saint Bernard dogs. They later divorced.

Carol enjoyed retirement traveling and getting together with friends for lunch or walks. She especially enjoyed weekly bowling and annual visits to the Iowa State Fair with her friend Pat Voyce. Carol was a long time member and volunteer at St. John’s Lutheran in Des Moines.

Carol is survived by her brother Robert Beermann and his wife Gail of Norwalk, her sister Debbie Beermann and her husband David VanDusseldorp of Iowa City, nephews Tim Beermann and his wife Amy of Colorado Springs, CO, Dan Beermann of Norwalk and nieces Shelly Batchelder and husband Mike of Millis, MA, Kate Schulein and husband Bob of Sherborn, MA, Sarah VanDusseldorp and husband Dave Tierney of Minneapolis, MN and many loving extended family and friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents and brother Ron Beermann.

Memorials may be directed to St. John’s Lutheran Church, 600 6th Avenue, Des Moines IA 50309.
