John Palmer, 43, of North Liberty, Iowa passed away unexpectedly in his home on January 11, 2023.
A gathering for family and friends will be held Sunday January 22, 2023 at Lensing’s Oak Hill, 210 Holiday Road, Coralville from 2:00 - 4:00 PM with a time of sharing to begin at 3:00 PM. The time of sharing will be livestreamed at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/83767226567. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the family for the children’s educational fund.
John was born on June 6, 1979 in Guam. He was raised by his mother Deanna (Martin) Palmer and adopted father, Marvin Palmer in Guam. He enjoyed growing up surrounded by warm temperatures, island foods, and adventures with his Uncle Dwight Martin. He treasured his tight friendships filled with beach nights, bonfires, and boonie stomping.
John graduated high school before leaving home to join the Army Reserves. He later returned to Guam, and worked building computer networks for the government of Guam.
John met his future wife, Jennifer Ayres in Guam and the couple dated for several years before moving to the states to begin their life together. After a few years freezing in MN they moved to the warmth of Tucson, AZ. John married Jennifer on October 31, 2004, in Las Vegas. They had two sons, Peter and Wyatt, who he loved beyond words. Their family moved back to Iowa in 2011.
John spent much of his career in food service and truly enjoyed what he did. He liked to say he worked to feed all of North Liberty and wanted to make sure everyone ate well. Making a meal was always a work of heart for him. He worked his way up at McDonalds in North Liberty, where he was a longtime employee.
John never knew a stranger. He did not judge anyone upon first meeting but instead got to know their character, as a result he had friends from many walks of life and all over the world. John was a computer whiz, excelling at building computers, writing code, and helping others with their computer needs. He was a big kid at heart and loved playing video games with his kids, riding roller coasters, and listening to live music wherever he could find it.
Above all, he loved his family and time spent making memories with them. Together they went on campouts, raced down water slides, saw the Pacific Ocean, fought gladiators in Rome, visited Disneyland Paris, rode through the canals of Venice, and toured America.
His most proud achievement in life was being a father to his two sons and that never went unnoticed.
John is survived by his children Peter and Wyatt, Jennifer Palmer, Larissa Pearson, mother Deanna Palmer, father Marvin Palmer, biological father Michael Chamberlain, Uncle Dwight Martin, and his half-siblings.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents John and Eva Martin and Marvin Palmer, Sr.
