Ricardo was born in Argentina. He was educated in Argentina, Spain, Italy and the United States. Fluent in several languages, Ricardo was a lifelong student of history, music and literature. He loved to read and always enjoyed a good conversation over a glass of red wine. Ricardo and his friend, Merrill Sparks, lived in California in the 1950s, returning to Iowa in the 1970s. They shared a passion for music, musical composition and historic preservation. He served for many years as a librarian for the Corning Public Library in Corning, Iowa and the Tipton Public Library in Tipton, Iowa. He was actively involved in the Iowa Librarians Association and Rotary International for many years. Ricardo’s journey through life was a rich and full one.
He is survived by a niece in Argentina, his good friends at the Universal Unitarian Society (UUS) in Iowa City, special friend and confidant, Bonnie Penno, who was his steadfast companion through the changes in his life, and a host of other friends and colleagues. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife and an infant daughter, his sister and Merrill. His wishes were to be cremated, with no funeral. Ashes to be interred in the UUS Memory Garden at a later date.
