Kenneth E. “Ken” Alwine, 93, lifelong resident of Coralville & Iowa City, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, September 17, 2022 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

Visitation will be held Friday from 11:30 am to 12:30 at Lensing’s Oak Hill, 210 Holiday Road in Coralville. Funeral Services will begin at 12:30pm. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Coralville. Instead of flowers and plants, the family suggests memorials to Friends of the Animal Center Foundation.

Ken was born April 5, 1929 in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Clarence and Alice (McMillin) Alwine. Following the death of his birth mother Alice when he was a young boy, Clarence married Ruth Wade. Graduating from University High School in Iowa City, Ken went to work for The Daily Iowan as a linotype operator. Ken met and later married the love of his life Rochelle Oehler on June 18, 1955 in Iowa City.

Ken worked for 41 years in the Department of Publications for the University of Iowa, retiring as printing supervisor in 1991. He was a dedicated sports fan, he loved the Cubbies, however, Iowa Hawkeye football & basketball were #1 in his book.

He is survived by his wife Rochelle; his children, daughter, Kim Hoffman (Gary) of West Des Moines, sons, Michael Alwine (Lynn) of Crystal Lake, Illinois and Ryan Alwine (Sonia Mersch) of St. Paul, MN.; grandchildren, Devin Alwine, Alex Alwine, Daniel Alwine, Amber Hoffman and Ashley Hoffman; sisters, Marian Brown of Coralville,
Donna Alt of West Liberty and brother Daryle Alwine (Pauline) of Longview, Washington.

Ken’s parents and step-mother Ruth Wade Lorack preceded him in death.
