Jacqueline Jean (Jackie) was born to John and Thelma Dorsey on March 14, 1927. She grew up in Kalamazoo, Michigan, and studied nursing at Rush Presbyterian in Chicago.
She married Delbert Benson on October 25, 1953 in Kalamazoo. They moved to Cadillac, Michigan, where they lived for 37 years.
Del became an insurance agent for State Farm and Jackie worked as an RN at Mercy Hospital. Jackie & Del had four children.
Jackie was active in the community, organizing a campaign for a new water plant and serving on the school board and a state education commission.
She taught at the Mercy School of Nursing in Cadillac and completed her BSN from the University of Michigan.
In retirement, Del & Jackie enjoyed traveling—including many happy cruises—and spending time with friends and family.
Their Florida years were spent first in Engelwood, then Venice, and finally Port Charlotte.
During this time, Jackie became an accomplished water color artist and teacher. She also served as a deacon and an elder of Engelwood Presbyterian Church.
In 2014, they moved to Traverse City, Michigan, where Delbert died suddenly.
Jackie returned to Port Charlotte for four years, then moved to Iowa City to live near a daughter. She resided in Legacy Senior Living until shortly before her death.
Jackie golfed from childhood until she turned 90. Even after, Sunday afternoons were dedicated to watching the pros play. She also played bridge with zeal until the end.
She is survived by one brother, Tom Dorsey, of Mattawan, MI; and her four children: Carol Benson-Selover (Bob Selover) of Littleton, CO; John (Julie) Benson of Tustin, MI; Nancy Benson Jaiyesimi of Birmingham, MI; and Joan Benson (Michelle Hills) of Iowa City; IA.
Nine grandchildren also survive her: Lindsay (Matt) Knight, Matt (Lauren) Selover, Katie (David) Gunderson, Mary Ann (Doug) Campbell, Charlie (Gayle) Keider, Andrew Keider, Ben (Kelsey) Keider, Delana Jaiyesimi, and Daniel Jaiyesimi. Those grandchildren are joined by eight great-grandchildren in mourning Jackie.
