Funeral services for William G. Hughes, 83, were held at 2 p.m. April 21 at the Donohue Mortuary with the Rev. Jack Zerwas of the First Presbyterian church, officiating. Burial was in Oakland cemetery.
Mr. Hughes died April 19 at the Cedar Manor Nursing Home following a long illness. He was born in Nebraska Jan. 31, 1890, the son of David and Jane Thomas Hughes. He came to Iowa City as a young man and married Pauline Schaedler at Webster City.
He was a bookbinder and was employed at Economy Advertising Company in Iowa City and later at Athens Press. He was a member of the First Presbyterian church, the Masonic order and was an Army veteran of World War I.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Floyd (Ethel) Thompson, Tipton, two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. His wife and three brothers preceded him in death.
