Charles D. Belger, 77, of 1128 Kirkwood Court in Iowa City, died peacefully at his home of cancer Monday, August 15, 2005.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday at 1:30 pm at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City. Friends may call Tuesday from 4 – 8 pm at the funeral home where a rosary will be recited at 7:45 pm.
Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Iowa City with graveside military rites provided by the Coralville American Legion & assisted by other military organizations.
Memorials may be directed to the Charles Belger Memorial Fund.

Charles was born February 23, 1928 in Parnell, Iowa, the son of James & Mary (Doyle) Belger. He graduated from St. Patrick’s High School in 1946. He served in the United States Army during WWII. He married Dorothy Villhauer April 25, 1955 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Iowa City.

Charles worked for the City of Iowa City Parks & Recreation Department for over 27 years. Upon retiring, he worked as a greeter at the Iowa City Wal-Mart.

Survivors include his wife Dorothy; his children, Tom Belger & his wife Susan of Solon, Steve Belger of Mt. Vernon and Linda Hobart of Iowa City; grandchildren, Jill Hobart, Jason Hobart, Joshua Hobart, Janel Tucker, Erin Hoffman & Chad Belger;
great grandchildren, Kayle Frese, Joseph Frese, David Hobart & Tony Hobart; and a sister Kathryn Jones of Williamsburg, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, four brothers and a granddaughter.
