Born March 15, 1927, in Joliet, Illinois, the son of Cecil and Mildred (Mills) Medd, Bob grew up in the Quad Cities and graduated from Moline High School. He enlisted in the US Army during WWII, serving as a Sgt. from 1944 to 1946.

On June 30, 1946, Bob married the love of his life, Nancy Roquet at the New Windsor Presbyterian Church in New Windsor, Illinois. Soon after, Bob began his life’s work as a devoted father and eventually grandfather and great-grandfather. Bob and Nancy have five children, ten grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren and happily celebrated their 74th wedding anniversary in 2020.

Bob was in business with his father and three brothers as C.R. Medd and Sons for over 40 years. They were a founding family in Dairy Queen and ran the Medd-O-Lane Dairy stores throughout the Quad Cities for decades. He served as president of the National Dairy Queen Association. Bob also worked as a residential real estate agent for over 20 years in the Quad Cities.

Bob was civic minded throughout his life, serving as president of the Bettendorf school board, on the North Scott school board, and the resident councils at Melrose Meadows and Briarwood Healthcare Center. Bob was a musician who played in his school bands, had his own big band in the ‘40’s, and played trumpet, piano, and organ throughout his life. He was a golfer, a bowler, a pool player, a thinker, and a dreamer. He designed and built his own log home, as well as barns, playhouses, treehouses, decks, and anything for his family. Bob was passionately devoted to his family, attending concerts, dance, and sporting events throughout the country to support his kids and grandkids.
