Daniel L. Berry of Iowa City passed away peacefully on July 3, 2022 at Mercy Hospital after a full and rewarding life. He was 90 years old. Dan was a lifelong Hawkeye fan and approached death as he approached life, unafraid and more worried about how his death would affect the ones he left behind.

Dan was born to Phillip and Beatrice (Kane) Berry on December 8, 1931. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters; daughter, Deb Harken and son, Brian Berry. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Carol Ann Berry (Roberdee); son, Dan Berry; son-in-law, Dean Harken (Deb); grandchildren: Matt Berry (Melanie), Courtney Dehn (Kyle), Jackson Harken, Joelle, Michael and Kelly Berry, and Connor and Collin Berry as well as great granddaughter, Norah Dehn and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dan was a Korean War Veteran in the United States Air Force and after returning from Korea he received his Bachelors Degree in Political Science from the University of Iowa before attending and graduating from Law School at the University of Iowa in 1959.

For 36 years Dan owned and operated Joe’s Place, one of the largest restaurants and bars in Iowa City before selling it in 2000. He had been a successful real estate broker since 1985. During that time, he served as Regional Vice President for the National Association of Realtors (NAR), President of the Iowa Association of Realtors in 2002, Recipient of the Iowa Realtor of the Year award in 2001, as well as the L. Martin Lee award for political involvement. In 2006 he was appointed by Governor Vilsac to the Iowa Real Estate Commission and then Re-appointed in 2008 by Governor Culver. In addition to serving as President of the Iowa Association of Realtors, he also served as Vice President and Treasurer of the Iowa Association of Realtors. Later in life, as semi-retired, Dan enjoyed being a school crossing guard where his infectious personality brought smiles to all.
