Paul D. “Punk” Scheetz, 88, of Cedar Rapids passed away on Wednesday, June 22, 2022 at the Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha.

Visitation will be held from 9-10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 29, 2022 at Lensing Funeral Home in Iowa City. Funeral services will follow at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Cosgrove. Memorials may be made to the Hospice House of Mercy and online condolences may be shared at www.lensingfuneral.com

Paul was born on June 1, 1934 in Iowa City, the son of Paul and Marguerite (Rohret) Scheetz.

Paul graduated from Cosgrove High School and entered the United States Army in 1954 during the Korean War conflict. He received the National Defense and Good Conduct medals. Following honorable discharge, Paul started farming and married Betty Brant. To this union, five children were born – Debra, Deanna, Donna, Michael and Patrick. Around 1968, he began his career in sales working at Monsanto, Walnut Grove, Confinement Livestock and Farmland. Following retirement, he was the assistant manager at Kirkwood States Mobile Home Park and delivered flowers for Hy-Vee on Wilson Avenue.

Paul will be remembered as a very outgoing person who was caring and generous. He loved to talk to anyone he met. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and made many memorable trips to Wyoming and Minnesota. He was proud of his term serving on the Clear Creek Amana School board.

On June 1, 1985 he married Lynnette Butler at the Little Brown Church and the couple resided in Cedar Rapids for 37 years. Paul is survived by his wife, Lynnette; siblings: Joe and Virginia; children: Debra, Deanna and Patrick; grandchildren: Stephanie, Josh, Andrea and Bryan; three great grandchildren; two stepchildren: Tim Butler and Tanya Browning as well as extended family and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; two children: Donna and Michael and one great grandchild.
