Ralph Wendell Nicholas, 94, recently of Walden Place, died Tuesday, July 26 at Windmill Manor following a brief illness.

Graveside services will be held at a later date at Kennerly Cemetery in Roland, Arkansas. The family requests no flowers. Memorial donations may be made to Iowa City Hospice. Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service is handling the arrangements for the family.

Ralph was born November 27, 1910 in Russellville, Indiana the son of Wallace E. and Bertha (Belles) Nicholas.

Ralph was employed as a Freight Sales Manager by New York, New Haven & Hartford Railroad, later the Penn-Central Railroad. He lived and worked in Dallas, TX, Pittsburg, PA, Washington, DC, Detroit, MI, Cleveland, OH and Chicago, IL. He retired in 1971 to Roland, AR and lived there until 1997 when he moved to Iowa City.

Ralph is survived by his son Ralph Wallace Nicholas (Marta) of Chicago, IL; daughter Betty Ruth Brumbaugh (Daughn) of Palatine, IL; daughter Mary Lou Matheson (George) of Iowa City, IA; six grandchildren, Kirk (Sharon) Brumbaugh, Sue (Ken) Ropski, Mollie Brumbaugh (Geoff Huenerfoth), Daniel Matheson, Amy (Scott) Tarrant, Peter Matheson; six great-grandchildren; and brother Eldon Nicholas (Emily) of Daytona Beach, FL.

Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers (Harlan & Milton), one sister (Elizabeth DeBoer), one grandson (Paul Nicholas Matheson) and his wife of 64 years, Ruth Oury Nicholas.
