Bruno was born August 18, 1925 on the family farm near Festina, IA, the son of Joseph and Elizabeth (Schmitt) Lensing. He was a graduate of St. Francis DeSales High School in Ossian and received a bachelor’s degree from Loras College. He proudly served in the US Navy during World War II. On December 27, 1951, Bruno married Lois Anne Simmons at Sacred Heart Church in Walker. They made a wonderful life together and Lois Anne was the center of his life.
Bruno and Lois Anne were longtime residents of Cedar Rapids, where he was employed as a salesman for Wilson and Company. He served area grocers and meat markets. His smile and gift of gab was welcoming to those with whom he interacted. Bruno was raised with a strong work ethic, put himself through college and worked hard to provide for his family. He was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, where Lois Anne taught for many years, and the Knights of Columbus. Following Lois Anne’s death in 1998, Bruno began spending winters in Mesa, Arizona. That is where he met Elaine Stautz. Elaine and Bruno shared many wonderful years together in Arizona, a place they both loved. Elaine died in 2014. Bruno was blessed to have the friendship of so many. He always had a twinkle in his eye and loved the ladies.
Special thanks to all the staff and residents at Terrace Glen Retirement Village in Marion and his dear friends at El Mirage in Mesa who lovingly watched over him.
Bruno is survived by his two children, Michael of Iowa City and Cindy (Michael) Johnson of Marion; daughter-in-law, Vicki Lensing (Rich Templeton) of Iowa City; six grandchildren, Amanda Lensing (Matt Huber), Ryan (Aki) Johnson, Kyle Johnson ( Rachel Doty), Alex Lensing, Doug Johnson, and Nick (Lauren) Lensing; four great grandchildren, Kai Johnson and Reese, Miles, and Maris Lensing and one expectant great granddaughter; his sisters, Beatrice Timp of Ossian and Mary Mulligan of Humboldt; his sisters-in-law, Esther Lensing of Calmar and Marion Retterath of Spillville; numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved.
Bruno was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Elizabeth, and siblings Daniel Lensing, Gordian Lensing, Roman Lensing, Stephen Lensing, Roche Lensing, Myra Lensing, and Verda Mikota.
