Darlene Agnes Kabela, 91, died peacefully Sunday, January 2, 2022 at Mercy Iowa City.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM, Thursday, January 6, 2022 at St. Bernadette’s Catholic Church in West Branch with Father Gary Beckman officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:30 to 6:30 PM at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City, where a rosary will be recited at 4 PM. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the charity of the donor’s choice.
The family requests that attendees wear a mask.Darlene was born on August 2, 1930 in Oxford, the daughter of Raphael and Doliena (Brennan) Mougin. On February 1,1954 Darlene married Frank E. Kabela at St. Peter’s Church in Cosgrove.
Darlene and Frank farmed in rural West Branch. Darlene was actively involved in the operation of the farm. She raised chickens and gardened. In earlier years Darlene taught at country schools near West Branch and was later employed as a cook at West Branch Schools and had also worked at ACT.
Darlene was a member of St. Bernadette’s Church and the Altar and Rosary Society, the American Legion Auxiliary #514, the Centerdale Women’s Club, and was a volunteer and patient advocate at Crestview Care Center, where she was presently a resident. She volunteered with Meals on Wheels and enjoyed time spent playing euchre and being with her family.
Darlene is survived by her children, Linda (Steve) Noll of Lisbon, David (Joan) Kabela of West Branch, Lois (Mike) Coates of Cedar Rapids, Steve (Darcy) Kabela of West Branch, and Barbara (Rory) Ditzler of West Branch; 13 grandchildren, Scott (Maggie), Stephanie (Anna), Sara (Eric), Erik (Megan), Kerri (Casey), Kelsie (Zach), Austin (Alli), Kacie (Chris), Kyle (Cindy), Jake (Sam), Cooper (Emmy), Megan and Tyler; 22 great grandchildren; her siblings, Mary Ann Walters, Juanita Hunter, and Charles (Sandy) Mougin; sister-in-law, Vivian Mougin; numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Darlene was preceded by her parents; her husband; her siblings, Ed, Victor, and Frank; and in laws, Lawrence “Whitey” Walters, Harold Hunter, Jean Mougin, and Leona Mougin.
