John Henry Milder, 71, died peacefully Saturday, December 18, 2021 at UIHC following a cranial injury.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM, Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Stephen Witt officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 to 7 PM at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City, where a Parish Vigil will be held at 7 PM. Graveside committal will be held Thursday at 10 AM at Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources or the Iowa Donor Network.

John was born August 9, 1950 in Iowa City, the son of Paul and Lillian (Frantz) Milder. He was a 1968 graduate of Regina High School and Kirkwood Community College. John served in the US Army Reserves. On October 3, 1970 John married Patricia Lowrance. In 2012 John lost Patricia following a long illness. In September of 2017 John and Sue Gordon were united in a commitment ceremony.

John worked as an accountant at R.R. Donnelly for more than 30 years, retiring in 2013.

John was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Church and the Rod Benders Bass Club. He was an avid bass fisherman and sports fan, with the Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Cubs being his favorites.

John will be greatly missed but he will live on by the gift of life he gave to others.

John is survived by his two sons, Peter and Steven (Lisa), both of Iowa City; grandchildren, Cole, Madison, and Logan; his beloved partner and companion, Sue Gordon; his siblings, Tom (Marty) Milder, Catherine Milder (Constance Ludwig) of Las Vegas, Phyllis Hathaway (Rev. Eddie Pritchard) of Cedar Falls, and Linda (Jeff) Miller of North Liberty; sister-in-law, Pat Milder of Iowa City; and numerous nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Patricia; and his brother, Ron.
