Pamela A. Escher, age 69, transitioned November 16, 2021, in Iowa City.

Pamela’s family will receive guests at Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service (2720 Muscatine Ave., Iowa City) on Monday, November 29th from 4-7 pm, with a 6 pm funeral service, also at the funeral home.

Pamela was born November 17, 1951, in Iowa City, Iowa, the daughter of James and Anna (Spratt) Gorvin. She was the eldest of eleven children and stepped into the shoes of a caretaker as soon as her beloved first sister, Sue, was born. Pamela lived for her family. She was a caring and generous person who exemplified kindness in her daily life. These characteristics served her well throughout her career in nursing. During her career at Mercy Hospital, she worked on many different units but found a home in the ICU, leading as a charge nurse, preceptor and clinical instructor. Many careers were shaped through her passion and desire to help those around her grow. She had a gift for treating patients because she saw them as individuals, as fellow humans. In her free time, Pamela enjoyed thrift shopping, gardening and cooking (seemingly gourmet meals) for her family. But at the end of the day, her greatest passion was being with her family. Her children and grandchildren were her greatest joy in life. The kindness and lessons that Pamela shared with us will continue to live through each of us. Her memory will be held close for generations to come

Pamela is survived by her beloved husband, Phil; children, Chad Escher, Tony Escher, Katie Escher, Andy (Sara) Escher and Regina Escher; sixteen grandchildren; siblings, Patricia (the late John), Michael, Paul, Constance and Donald; siblings-in-law, Maureen, Cindy and Joe; and numerous nieces and nephews. Sadly, Pamela is preceded in death by James and Anna; siblings, Bruce, Paula, Jimmy (Cindy), Barb (Maureen) and Sue.

Please continue to keep Pamela’s family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
