Arnold Swails, known as Boo to all, and lifelong resident of Coralville, IA, passed away October 27, 2021 at home surrounded by his loving family at 92- years of age.

A funeral service will be held Monday November 1, 2021 at 12 PM at Lensing’s Oak Hill, 210 Holiday Road, Coralville, Iowa, where his family will greet friends prior to the service from 11 AM until 12 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to his family to be distributed to organizations that were important to Boo.

Arnold was born March 18, 1929 in Conesville, Iowa to Mellie and Verlee (Lovelett) Swails. He grew up alongside his older brother, Rex, and graduated from University High School in Iowa City before proudly serving in the National Guard for nearly 10 years. After attending The University of Iowa, he began working in the Physics and Astrology Department at The University of Iowa, where he worked for more than 35 years before retiring.

Boo married his high school sweetheart and best friend, Rose VanScoyoc on September 16, 1950 at First United Methodist Church in Iowa City. The couple settled in Coralville, where they would raise their two children Luann and Terry and spend 71 memorable years together.

Boo was the jack of all trades, and a meticulous handy man of anything and everything. He also enjoyed camping, traveling in the RV, family vacations, tinkering around in his garage, and caring for his beloved cat Booie.

If you knew Boo, you know he spent his life as a hardworking, patient, humble, dedicated, and selfless man. Family was the pivotal essence of his life and that never went unnoticed. He was proud to be the patriarch, father, grandfather and great-grandfather to his family and was a major presence in their lives. Boo was a man who never cared much about himself, and found joy in seeing others happy, leaving the world a better place and for that, he will be missed.

He is survived by his wife Rose Swails of Coralville, Iowa; two children Terry Swails (Carolyn Wettstone) and Luann Niebes Swails (Larry Niebes); four grandchildren Staci Klocke, Ryan Klocke, McKayla Kretzer, and Eden Swails; three great-grandchildren Kydan Bernard, Layla Bernard, and Elle Klocke, and his loving cat Booie.

Boo was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Rex (Marilyn) Swails.
