Randy Paul Koch, 70, of Iowa City, died on Tuesday, October 19, 2021, at Lantern Park Specialty Care.

A graveside committal service with Military Honors will be at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 28. at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Iowa City. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed toward the Freedom Foundation (609 Center Point Road NE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52402) or the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Ward 4 (2730 Bradford Drive, Iowa City, IA 52240).

Randy was born on October 22, 1950, in Sigourney, Iowa, the son of Richard and Frances (Simmons) Koch. He was raised in What Cheer, Iowa and relocated to Iowa City in 1980. On August 27, 1982, Randy married Iris Baskett in Ottumwa, Iowa. Iris died on February 28, 2005.

For many years, Randy worked as a custodian for the Department of Human Services. He was a Vietnam War veteran and a member of the Oxford American Legion. He enjoyed traveling to Cedar Rapids on Thursdays to have lunch with other veterans. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Ward 4.

Randy is survived by his close friends: Gillian Fox of Lakewood, WA; Sue Chase and Carol Thompson, both of Coralville; Tom Saeugling at the Mental Health Intensive Case Management Program at the Veterans Administration Hospital, and his companion, Fred the cat.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Iris.
