Carol A. Schrage, 77, passed away on Sunday, October 3, 2021 at home, following a short illness from cancer.

Carol was born on August 8, 1944 in Rock Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Gerrit and Joy (Mapes) Vugteveen. Carol grew up in Iowa and Minnesota, graduating from high school in Austin, Minnesota.

Carol met Leon Schrage while living in Austin and they were married on February 19, 1966. Carol worked at the University of Iowa for 38 years, primarily in the Communication Studies Department. She enjoyed traveling abroad, shopping trips and socializing with friends and family.

Carol is survived by her husband, Leon, of Iowa City, Iowa, a son, Jason, of Lawrence, Kansas, a sister, Mary Halverson, of Rochester, Minnesota, brother-in-Law, Eugene Schrage of St. Ansgar, Iowa, sister-in-law, Kathleen Cohn of Denver, Iowa, sister-in-law, Pat Kraft of Great Falls, Montana, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dean and Veronica Adams of Stacyville, Iowa and numerous nieces and nephews & many loving friends and students.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, 3 sisters and 2 brothers.

A Celebration of Life for Carol is being planned at a later date. Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City is handling arrangements.

In place of flowers and plants, the family suggests that memorial donations be directed to: University of Iowa Carol Schrage Award/Fund, The American Cancer Society, or any charitable organization of your choice.
