James "Jay" Benson Thompson of Iowa City passed away at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City on Sept 25th, 2021.

Visitation will be held at the Iowa City Church of the Nazarene on Tuesday, October 5th, from 9:30 to 10:30 am. The funeral service will begin at 10:30 am.
Burial with military honors will be at Rock Island National Cemetery at 2:00 pm Tuesday. Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service is handling arrangements for Jay.

James was born in Quahna, Texas to Barney and Alice Thompson on April 5th, 1933. After living many years in California, he made his way to Iowa in 1996.

James served in the Army during the Korean War from 1952 to 1954. Throughout his life he worked at Ford Motor Company, was a truck driver and security guard.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge since 1974. In 2012, he became a member of the Church of the Nazarene after renewing his faith In Jesus Christ. He expressed his faith in faithfully serving weekly as a driver running errands, helping others, and serving anyone who needed his help. He enjoyed building truck and car models, country music and going out to eat with friends. He will be greatly missed by friends, the members and volunteers of the Church of the Nazarene and IC Compassion.

James is survived by his son, Jimmy and daughter, Diane.

He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings.
