Louis P. Eckrich, 87, of the Senior Village, Riverside died peacefully Saturday, July 2, 2005.

Funeral Services will be Wednesday, July 6, 2005 at 11AM at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, Iowa City, with Rev. Michael Phillips officiating. Burial with military rites will be at the Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday from 4 to 7pm at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the Riverside First Responders.

Louis was born May 24, 1918 in Iowa City, the son of Joseph and Theresa Graef Eckrich.
He married Ida Breese in Iowa City. Ida died December 17, 1993.

Louis was a self-employed carpenter and had served in the US Army in the Pacific Theatre during World War II.

He cherished the time spent with his children and grandchildren and liked to garden, fish, hunt and spend time at the cabin.

Louis was a member of VFW Post 3949.

He is survived by two sons:
Kenny Eckrich and his fiancé, Sheila Katzenburger of Iowa City,

Ron Eckrich and his fiancé, Theresa Bennett of Riverside,

His daughter Janet (Richard) Schnoebelen of Burlington, Iowa;

five grandchildren, Tammy Schnoebelen (Brad) Stewart, Angie Eckrich (Scott) Westerhoff, Andy Eckrich, Jason Eckrich and his fiancé, Lindsy, Christy Schnoebelen (Dan) Heitman;

six great grandchildren, Bennett, Emily, Owen, Jake, Mason, John;

one brother Joe Eckrich of Phoenix, Arizona;

four sisters, Agnes Rocca of Cedar Rapids, Sister Mary Therese “ Katie” Miller of Dubuque, Mag Parizek and Theresa Miller, both of Mesa, Arizona.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Pete.
