Janet E. Feuerbach, age 92 of Iowa City died Monday, June 14, 2021, at the Solon Nursing Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 11am Friday, June 18, 2021, at the First United Methodist Church in Iowa City, where there will be a time of visitation from 9:30am until services at the church on Friday. (Sunday parking ordinance will be in effect for the streets near the church). Following burial at Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City, family and friends are invited for a reception to be held at the Pleasant Valley Golf Course beginning at 1pm.

Janet Elaine Johnson was born on November 28th, 1928, in Winfield, Iowa, the daughter of Ralph and Ruth Johnson. She graduated from Winfield High School in 1946 and Iowa State Teachers College (pre-UNI) in 1948. Following graduation, she was a kindergarten teacher in Keystone, Iowa for six years. While living in Keystone, she met her future husband, Darold Feuerbach. They married on November 21st, 1951, at First Presbyterian Church in Winfield and enjoyed 53 wonderful years together until his death in 2004.

The young family moved to Waterloo in 1960, Decorah in 1963, where Janet was the school secretary at Eastside Elementary, Monticello in 1970 where she was a teacher’s aide at Shannon Elementary School, and Charles City in 1978. Throughout their moves, her main focus in her life was her family.

After Darold’s retirement in 1991, they sold their home and traveled the country for the next nine years as “full-timers” in their camper. In November of 2000, they settled in Iowa City to be closer to their family. There Janet developed close friendships in her neighborhood and with her Red Hat ladies.

Janet attended every concert and sporting event for her own children. She continued to do so later with her grandchildren, as she was a huge sports fan, especially of the Iowa Hawkeyes and her granddaughters’ softball teams. Throughout her life, Janet was up for anything. With her petite, coifed, and well-fashioned appearance, she could still be seen riding on the back of motorcycles, partaking in foot races, and enjoying outdoor life. A teacher at her core, she loved taking her grandchildren to libraries, museums, and on nature walks. She will be missed by many: her son and his wife, Kerry and Aleda Feuerbach; her daughter and her husband, Karla and Carl Rushek; grandchildren Kelli Rushek, Nick Rushek (Michael Giles), and Mark Rushek; Jessie Montgomery (Carter), Katie Thompson (Chris), and Missie Helm (Dylan); great-granddaughters Blakely Ann Helm and Arie Faye Montgomery; sister-in-law Grace Wiese and many nieces and nephews.

She is reunited in death with her husband Darold; her parents; brother Dale Johnson and his wife Dorothy “Dot” Johnson; and brothers and sisters-in-laws, Betty and Donnie Albers, Ethel and Milford Wardenberg, and Keith Wiese. May they rest in peace.

The family would like to thank Dr. Rich Larew and his staff; Emily, Shannon and Crystal at PRN Staffing; and the Solon Nursing Care Center for their excellent care of Janet throughout the years.

Memorial donations can be made in Janet’s memory to The Regina Foundation or Iowa Public Television. To share a thought, memory or condolence, please visit the funeral home website at www.gayandciha.com.
