Growing up, he enjoyed many friendships, participating in sports, and his yellow ’57 Chevy. After graduating from Ackley-Geneva High School, Gary attended Gates Business College in Waterloo, IA. He started working at Ackley State Bank in high school as a teller and enjoyed the bank and customers so much he spent over 40 years there, retiring as president in 2001. He was actively involved in the community and was a member of Rotary Club, United Methodist Church, country club, and an EMT with the Ackley volunteer ambulance service.

Gary met Sharon Kay Henry at Gates Business College and they were married on September 10, 1960. They resided in Ackley until they retired and enjoyed ten years in Bella Vista, AR, then five years in Ocala, FL. They moved to Coralville, IA in 2016. Gary enjoyed fishing, golfing, Cyclone sports, bike riding, country music, and M&M’s.

Gary is survived by his wife, Sharon, and three children: Tony Homan (Carlos Suarez) of Concord, NC; Laurie (Dennis) Mitchell of Coralville, IA; and Peggy Klemme of West Des Moines, IA. The absolute joys of his life are his five grandchildren: Kelsey Klemme of Los Angeles, CA; Emily (Klemme) Guy of West Des Moines, IA; Harry Mitchell of Dallas, TX; Noah Mitchell of Iowa City, IA; and Sam Mitchell of Coralville, IA. Gary is preceded in death by his parents, Woodrow and Ruth Homan. Eagerly waiting to greet him in heaven are his beloved dogs, Max and Sam.

We will miss his constant smile, gentle kindness, and unconditional love. He was a loving husband, a great father, and a fun grandpa. He will be loved and missed every day.
