With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Dylan Andrew Salge on March 13, 2021. After a courageous and long battle with depression over this past year, Dylan took his life. We know it was not our sweet boy that made the decision this week, but something that had taken control of him. While Dylan was battling his own struggles, he spent much of his time trying to listen and console others battling similar challenges. While his fateful decision causes us tremendous pain, we still celebrate the life and the countless good times he provided us.

Visitation for family and friends will be Thursday, March 18, 2021 from 4:30 PM to 7 PM at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City. Private Family Services will be at 10:30 AM, Friday, March 19, 2021 at Parkview Church. Friends are welcome to attend the Committal Services at Oakland Cemetery which will follow the Private Service. For a 16-year old boy, Dylan experienced a lot of the world. Dylan was born on January 27th, 2005 in Fort Benning, Georgia. Within two weeks, Dylan was on the road to Fort Lewis, Washington and his life did not slow down from there. He has hiked the trails of Mount Rainier on Mom’s back. On the east coast, Dylan began playing soccer for the first time and walked the streets of the nation’s capital. Dylan also lived in Germany for 3 years, which resulted in many more trips throughout Europe. He stood in the Rome Colosseum, cruised throughout the Mediterranean and looked up at the Eiffel Tower. It was when his life took him to Hawaii that he discovered some of his true passions in the water. Dylan loved surfing, swimming and even became certified in SCUBA at the age of 10. Dylan really loved diving, with one of his favorite dives being a night dive with 16-foot manta rays. He dreamed of becoming a commercial diver one day and living in the water.

From a young age, Dylan loved building things resulting in countless Lego sets littering his room through his early years. He loved fishing when he visited either set of grandparents, whether on the family pond in Iowa for bass, or big catfish in Kansas. In his spare time, he loved video gaming either with his brother or friends that he made across the country.

Dylan was a sophomore at Iowa City West High School. His favorite classes involved hands on work, such as electronics and engineering. He dabbled in robotics when time allowed, but swimming was his true passion. A member of the West High Swim Team, Dylan lettered his freshman and sophomore year. Dylan was also a member of the I-Fly Swim Club and had set lofty goals for himself the next two years. He had just joined Alchemy Strength and Conditioning to increase his strength and mobility for swimming and loved working with the team of coaches and members each morning before school.

Dylan is survived by his parents, Kevin and Micki and his brother, Gavin; his grandparents, Larry and Ruth Salge of Spring Hill, KS and Dennis and Dixie Davis of Diagonal, IA; aunts and uncles, Jason Salge, Jamie (Jason) Enders, and Shelly (Adam) Wyant; and cousins, Ryan, Connor, Jadyn, Tucker, Josie, Jaxon, Asher, Hudson and Whitney.
