Laurie Sue Fitzgerald 61, entrepreneur, businesswoman, teacher, and long-term resident of Iowa City, IA, and Ojai, CA. Daughter of Ralph and Rebecca Miller and devoted mother of Maggie Fitzgerald, Laurie was a fun-loving soul who was quick to laugh and equally quick to offer a helping hand. She was the life of the party at any event, easily made friends, and had immense strength and resilience to anything that was put in her path. Laurie loved her friends and family unconditionally and always had an open heart and soft ear for them. In her 30’s she co-founded a successful business in California that is now internationally operating. She was smart and truly beautiful inside and out. Laurie was special and had an innate ability to connect with people no matter who they were. She loved traveling all over the world and was very open-minded to new ideas and experiences. Laurie also was very passionate about politics and the arts and took up painting in her 40’s where she produced several beautiful pieces of work. In her later years, Laurie worked to give back to her community, becoming a part-time substitute teacher where she loved being able to connect with students since she believed in the value of good education.

Laurie passed quickly and peacefully yet entirely too soon for all her friends and family who love her so much. We will all miss Laurie immensely for the rest of our lives, but know she will always be with us, at peace, watching over us.

Laurie is survived by her daughter Maggie Fitzgerald - Santa Barbara CA., who is currently attending American University in DC; Maggie's father Mike Fitzgerald - Santa Barbara, CA; brothers Bill Miller - Morse IA, and Terry Miller - Scottsdale AZ; sisters Judy Suchomel - West Branch IA, Connie Meis - Naperville IL, and Deborah Schlegel - Washington IA; many nieces, nephews, and loved ones across the country; and her loving Shih Tzu Mia Fitzgerald.

Laurie was preceded in death by her parents.
