Lloyd Hruby, 88, lifelong resident of rural Oxford died Thursday, January 28, 2021. He passed peacefully at home with his wife Marie at his side.

Lloyd Eugene Hruby was born November 10th, 1932 the son of Stanley and Ethel (Mueller) Hruby. Following graduation from Oxford High School in 1951 he joined the United States Army to serve his country. On June 21, 1960, Lloyd married Marie Russell, daughter of Earl and Julia Russell of Mt. Vernon. They were married at St. John's Catholic Church in Lisbon, Iowa and immediately moved to the Hruby family farm to begin their career as lifelong farmers.
Lloyd devoted his life to his farm, family, and faith. Generous, kind, and humble, Lloyd always had a kind word for everyone. He never worked by a timeclock or scheduled hours, he worked by acres. From sun-up to sundown, he worked till the job was done. He was never happier anywhere in the world than he was on his farm.

Lloyd and Marie first met at CSPS dance hall in Cedar Rapids when he asked her to dance the 2-step circle dance. Devoted to their farm and to each other, they were partners for 60 years. Lloyd did not love sheep, but Marie did, so he helped her raise them for 60 years. He was an active member of the Oxford area Birthday Club since the 1960’s and enjoyed being with his many friends at their gatherings.

Lloyd is survived by his wife, Marie; his brothers and their wives, Richard Hruby (Merlene), Donald Hruby (Lucille), sister-in-law Shirley Hruby, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Lloyd is preceded in death by his parents, brother Ray S.Hruby, sister Lue Ellen Larew, brother-in-law Harold J. Larew, and brother-in-law Don Russell.

A private mass due to COVID will be held for family and close friends, Tuesday February 2, 2021 at 10:30AM. In lieu of flowers, the family has set up memorials for the Oxford First Responders Services and St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
