Max Thomas Wehrle, age 29, was born to Bob and Annette Wehrle on March 2, 1991 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. He died on January 23, 2021 in Iowa City.

There is no formal service. His body has been cremated.

Max was a 2009 graduate of City High School in Iowa City. He liked history classes. He was up on current events too. He had opinions. It was fun to engage in debate with him and always lively. Max had a quick wit and he appreciated others who could respond in kind. He liked language arts and literature. He was a sensitive reader and a sensitive person.

Max was in Boy Scouts and achieved Eagle rank. He served in the Army including time in Iraq. He had a passion for UI Hawkeye sports, especially football. His enthusiasm was contagious and certainly life-affirming.

Max had serious struggles in his life, yet he still had a sense of humor and was not above poking fun at himself. He had an easy smile. In good times, Max was fun, gentle, and kind.

We are grateful to the VA and his brother Ross for being there for Max during trying times. May he rest in peace. Always, he is in our hearts.

Survivors include his parents Bob and Annette Wehrle in Rio Rancho, NM and his brother Ross in Iowa; Aunt Barb and Uncle Chuck in Bend, OR; Aunt Diane and Uncle Chuck in Syracuse, NY; Cousin Lisa in Syracuse; and Aunt Phyllis in Iowa City. Memorial donations can be made to the Iowa City VA Medical Center, Hwy 6 West, Iowa City, Iowa, 52246-2208.
