Donald J. Kolar, 75, of rural Oxford died Thursday, June 16, 2005 at his home.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, June 21, 2005, at 10 AM at St. Mary’s Church in Oxford with Rev. Edmond Dunn, Donald’s brother-in-law officiating. A luncheon will follow the services at St. Mary’s Parish Hall. Committal Services will be held Tuesday at 2PM at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Iowa City. Friends may call Monday from 2 to 8PM at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, Iowa City, where the Knights of Columbus will recite a rosary at 5PM and a Parish Vigil Service will be held at 7PM. Friends may also call at the Church after 9am Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to
Iowa City Hospice or the charity of the donor’s choice.

Donald was born December 6, 1929 in Syracuse, New York, the son of Frank and Catherine Conway Kolar. He was a graduate of Iowa City City High School and the University of Iowa. Donald served in the Air Force in Japan during the Korean War.

Donald married Mary Ramona Dunn on August 11, 1956 at St. Mary’s Church in Oxford. She died on September 14, 1995. On November 28, 1998 he married Thelma Meade Wagner at St. Mary’s Church in Oxford.

Prior to moving to rural Oxford in 1998 Donald had been a longtime resident of Muscatine. He had been employed at Grain Processing Corp.- Kent Feeds, Inc. for thirty three years. In 1992, he retired as the Senior Vice President of Finance with Grain Processing Corp. and Chairman of the Board of Kent Feeds, Inc. He had been a member of St. Mary’s Church in Muscatine.

Donald was a member of St. Mary’s Church, Oxford, the University of Iowa President’s Club and Knights of Columbus Bishop James Davis Council 12910. He enjoyed theatre, especially attending Hancher events, and traveling throughout the world.

Donald is survived by his wife, Thelma; his five children, Dr. Anne Kolar of Coralville,
Matthew (Michelle) Kolar of Davenport and their children Joseph and Christopher, Joseph (Kathryn) Kolar of Chevy Chase, Maryland and their children Caroline and James, Karen (Sean) O’Malley of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota and their children Molly and Mary, Mary Patricia (Scott) Bruner of Chicago; five step children, Anne (Richard) Connell of The Woodlands, Texas and their children Christina, Daniel, Cullen and Kenneth, Richard Wagner of Iowa City and his son Colin Berry, Patricia (Allen) Morelock of Iowa City and their children Quinn and Shane, Jeanne Wagner of Omaha, Jennifer Wagner of Cedar Rapids, and Gregory (Kimberly) Wagner of Oxford and their children Cody and Kali.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
