Marina Alyce (Strabala) Harbit passed away of Covid-19 related complications on December 20, 2020 at Lantern Park Specialty Care in Coralville, Iowa.

Marina was born in Iowa City in November 1932, the second of thirteen children of John and Clementine (Scherrer) Strabala, who resided at 1012 E. Washington Street in Iowa City for many years. Marina graduated from St. Mary’s High School in the class of 1950. While Marina was a telephone switchboard operator at the University of Iowa, she met the love of her life, Daniel (Dan) Harbit, Sr. They married in November of 1955 and moved to a small farm near Downey, Iowa. In 1961, they moved to 1132 Franklin Street in Iowa City, where they made their home until Dan, Sr. died in 2008, then Marina moved to Lantern Park in 2009. Marina was a homemaker and enjoyed embroidery projects.

Private graveside services are planned with Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City.

Marina is survived by seven children, ten grandchildren, and seven and two-thirds great-grandchildren. Children, Dan Jr. (Jane), Steve, Rosemary (Craig Stratton), Jeff, Tom, Susan (Ron Brus) and Carol (Matt McLaughlin). Grandchildren, Justin Harbit (Kristi), Allison (Matt Prosser), Christopher Harbit, Kimberly (Adam Clemence), Megan Goodwin (Correne Bass), Kaybri (Chuck Knight), Eric Harbit, Andy Stratton (Nicki Beaurivage), Mark McLaughlin, and Molly McLaughlin.
Great-grandchildren, Kael, James, Coralynn & Eli Knight, Mason & Avery Prosser, and Kennedy Clemence.

Marina is survived by four sisters, Theresa Strabala, Mary (Terry Myers), Kathy (Ray Kempa), and Jane (Toshi Hoshi), as well as four brothers, Bill Strabala, Jim Strabala, Don Strabala (Jackie), and David Strabala.

Marina was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dan Harbit, Sr., sister Joan Barber, and brothers Jack, Joe & Melvin Strabala.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for Mercy Hospital Foundation of Iowa City. The family urges you to wear a mask to protect those who are unable to protect themselves from Covid-19.
