Georgia Jane Kasper passed away on December 3rd with family by her side in Iowa City, IA.

Born in August, 1949 to William Fischer and Margaret Volz Fischer in Davenport, IA, Georgia was a graduate of Assumption High School and received her Bachelor of Arts in English from University of Iowa.

She met and married Richard Kasper in 1974. They later moved to Altlay, Germany where the couple welcomed their first two daughters Marinan in 1979 and Meghan in 1981. While there, she also earned her Masters in Counseling from Ball State. After moving back to Iowa, their third daughter, Lauren, was born in 1985 and Georgia enjoyed being a mom to her girls and earned a Masters in Social Work in 1994.

After the dissolution of marriage, Georgia met Wayne Bowers of Iowa City in 1996. By this time, Georgia was running the partial hospital program at Vera French in Davenport, helping many people with their mental health. After marrying Wayne in 2007, Georgia relocated to Iowa City where she would build a program while working at the University of Iowa Hospital to help students with substance abuse. She would work there until 2019.

Personally, those who knew Georgia knew that her greatest love were her girls, and her granddaughters. She loved music and sharing music with her friends and family, running, working out, watching the birds at her bird feeders, and walks with friends. She found great joy and pride in raising her dogs, especially Elsa, who Georgia worked to certify as a therapy dog and would take her to Oaknoll to visit patients. Georgia has traveled to many places and is known to have always looked her best. She is loved by many friends and her close knit family.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her sister Mary Anne Gimbel of Bettendorf.
She is survived by her husband Wayne Bowers; her daughters Marinan Coons and her husband Scott of Iowa City; Meghan Andruscavage and her husband Christopher of Custer, WA and Lauren Benner and her husband Kevin of Kent, WA as well as her granddaughters Myca and Mielle Andruscavage, and the father of her children Richard Kasper of Bellingham, WA.

Donations can be made to Therapy Dogs International, Alliance of Therapy Dogs, Pancreatic Cancer Action Network or Iowa City Hospice.
