Patricia Carol Van Gerpen, 82, of Iowa City passed away peacefully August 2, 2020 at her home following a courageous battle with cancer.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, August 8, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. Her family will greet friends prior to the graveside service from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, 605 Kirkwood Avenue, Iowa City. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to Compassus Hospice or American Cancer Society.

Patricia was born July 2, 1938 in Belmond, Iowa to Albert and Janet (Daniels) Ammerman before her parents divorced. Her stepfather, Roland Mosiman would later raise Patricia and her siblings loving them as if they were his own. She was grateful to call him Dad from that moment on. She grew up in Belmond where she graduated high school.

Patricia married Peter Van Gerpen on July 15, 1955 in Mason City, Iowa and spent 65 memorable and loving years together. The couple moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he was stationed while serving in the Air Force. Patricia and Peter eventually settled in Iowa City in 1957. She graduated from the University of Iowa College of Business and together they raised their three children, Jeff, Susan and Kristi.

She worked for the University of Iowa College of Nursing for 32 years, retiring in 1998. Friends were everything to her. Her best friend of more than 60 years Lois Gerard had many good times including going on a cruise. She made many friends while at the college of nursing and after retirement always made time for monthly get togethers with them. She and Pete looked forward to coffee every morning at Hy-Vee with friends.

Patricia was a long time member of First Presbyterian Church in Iowa City.

She loved playing games, doing crossword or jigsaw puzzles, going to the casino, playing bingo, doing ceramics and bowling, which she did with her daughter for over 40 years. Patricia and Peter made many memories over the years and enjoyed traveling all over the country together, especially to Florida for family vacations.

Above all things in life, family meant the most to Patricia and being a grandma and great grandma meant everything to her.

Patricia is survived by her husband Peter Van Gerpen of Iowa City; three children Jeff (Sheila) Van Gerpen, Susan (Curt) Moore and Kristi Salasberry (Nick Hippert) all of Iowa City; three grandchildren Michael Van Gerpen, Amanda Salasberry and Zach Moore; four great-grandchildren Xander, Michael, Hanah and Solon; one sister Linda (Roger) Benson, and a half sister. She is also survived by Lynda Etchions and many of Pete's family members whom she was close to.

She was preceded in death by her parents and stepfather and her siblings Terry, Tony, David and Rollie.
