Herbert “Herb” W. Herrly, 81, of Tiffin IA, died peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday, July 18, 2020 at the Bird House: Hospice Home of Johnson County.

Private family funeral services will be held at 2:00 on Thursday July 23 at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City. Burial with Military Honors will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minnesota at a later date. Please join the family at Club 76 American Legion, North Liberty following the service for a time to celebrate Herb. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to The Bird House Hospice Home of Johnson County in Iowa City. (www.hospicehomejc.org).

Herb was born on June 20, 1939 in Tamarack, Minnesota, the son of Herbert A. and Jackie (Dworshak) Herrly. In 1957, Herb enlisted with the United States Air Force and served in Vietnam. He was then employed as the Sales and Marketing Manager at Northwest Swissmatic in Minneapolis for over 30 years. Herb married Judith Goebel on December 26, 1987 in Minneapolis, MN. Herb was an avid hunter, fisherman, golfer, boater, card player, sports enthusiast, and a member of the American Legion. Herb and Judy also enjoyed many travel adventures around the world.

Herbert is survived by his wife Judith; children David (Gayle) Herrly of Rush City, MN; Lisa Smith of Albuquerque, NM; Ron Jahnke of North Liberty, IA; Daniel “Bud” (Mary Jane) Jahnke of Solon, IA; and Jane (Thomas) Drews of Iowa City, IA; 17 grandchildren, and 28 great grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters in law Paula Herrly of Carlos, MN; Patricia Luhrs of Des Moines, IA; and Cyndy (Clint) Shoap of Sun Lakes, AZ; and numerous extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Herbert and Jackie Herrly; his brothers Ralph, Wayne, and Larry Herrly; sisters in law Judy Herrly and Tracy Herrly; brother in law James Luhrs; and grandson Daniel Drews.
