Richard “Rick” Stanley Cross, 67, of Iowa City died peacefully at home on Saturday, June 6th, 2020.
He is preceded in death by his parents; Stanley and Kathleen “Kay” (Jensen) Cross.

Rick is survived by his wife, Mary (Thoman) Cross and children; Shane, Caitlin and Melanie Cross, all of Iowa City.

Rick retired after 33 years from the storeroom at UIHC in 2016. In addition to the time he spent with UIHC, Rick also owned and operated 3 Kids ‘N’ Dad Lawn Care Service for 20 years.

Rick was a lover of his guitars and music, fishing trips to Canada, Mopars - specifically his ‘69 Charger R/T, his Harley-Davidson motorcycle and all of the dogs he had throughout his life (late; Bogey, Jake, Charlie, Jonas and Gibbs and surviving; Casper and Murphy).

Rick and Mary were united in marriage on October 11, 1985. He was most passionate about family and valued time and memories - he taught Sunday school and he always volunteered and chaperoned field trips when his kids were in grade school. It’s hard to put into words what an incredible man Rick was. He was without question the kindest, most honest, generous and humble man. He taught us so much about life and how to really live in the moment.

He was a man who preferred the scenic route and having a cigar enjoying the natural beauty of the world. He would always take his kids fishing, to car shows or just drive around back roads.
He taught us how to think freely, shoot, fish, change the oil and change a tire among countless other useful skills that helped us become the independent, strong people we are today. He taught forgiveness, compassion, the value and satisfaction of a hard days work and truly was a man who lead by example.

Rick always accepted us for exactly who we are and never wavered in his love and support for us even if he didn’t agree. He put family above everything and we never had to question whether he was proud of us or loved us because he always made sure to say it.
