Karen J. Moore, 69, of North Liberty passed away peacefully at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City on Tuesday, May 26, 2020.

Family Graveside Committal will be held at Oakland Cemetery in Centerville, Iowa.

Karen was born July 6, 1950, in Centerville Iowa, the daughter of Edward John and Fern (Whitmer) Bubenyak. She graduated from Centerville High School in 1968, and also attended Centerville Junior College (now Indian Hills Community College). She went on to receive her Bachelor’s degree from Northeast Missouri State University (now Truman State University) in 1974, and her Master’s degree from Morningside College. She was a teacher with the Ottumwa Schools for almost 30 years.

On August 16, 1975, Karen was married to Gary Moore in Centerville. Together, they raised their four children in Ottumwa. They moved to North Liberty in 2018.

She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. In her free time, Karen enjoyed quilting, reading, and watching television crime shows, especially Blue Bloods and re-runs of Magnum, P.I., and Murder, She Wrote. She was an active member of ADK Sorority, and enjoyed traveling and laughing with friends.

Karen had a soft spot in her heart for all animals, and especially loved her cats throughout the years. She also enjoyed tending to her plants and garden, and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan.

Karen is survived by her husband of nearly 45 years, Gary; their four children and five grandchildren, Ryan (Regina) Moore of Iowa City, and their daughter, Bernadette; Jeffrey D. (Cece) Moore of West Des Moines, and their children, Savannah and Patrick; Matthew R. Moore of Seattle, WA; and Jennifer (Michael) Kelso of North Liberty, and their children, Jack and Samuel; her brother, Jerry Bubenyak of Centerville; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents and sister-in-law, Lois Bubenyak.

The family would like to thank all the doctors, nurses, and staff at Hall-Perrine Cancer Center as well as UIHC who cared for Karen throughout her illness.
