Dilsy M. Gutierrez, de 14 años, de Iowa City, falleció repentinamente el 17 de mayo del 2020 por complicaciones relacionadas con la Distrofia Muscular, una condición con la que vivió durante 14 años.

Dilsy, nació el 20 de diciembre del 2005 en Iowa City, hija de Fermín Gutiérrez y María Borjas, sus hermanos Ronald Marely y Yoshi Marilyn. Dilsy asistió a la Escuela Primaria Hills, donde fue amada por sus maestros y compañeros por su calidad humana. Se encontraba cursando el octavo grado en Northwest Junior High, donde recibió mucho apoyo durante su condición de salud.

Sus limitaciones físicas no fueron un obstáculo para seguir luchando. Ella siempre fue una niña valiente, inteligente y dinámica, cualidades que ayudaron a su familia y amigos a mantenerse fuertes durante la desbastadora batalla, que Dilsy enfrentó contra la enfermedad. Aunque fue diagnosticada con Distrofia Muscular cuando era niña, Dilsy podía caminar a los dos años, y finalmente fue capaz de montar en bicicleta con sus amigos. Todo lo que Dilsy podía hacer con sus manos, lo hizo, especialmente pintando, que era uno de sus muchos talentos creativos.

Durante su paso por el hospital, se le practicó un examen médico que era innecesario y le cambiaría la vida por completo, hasta el punto de casi perder la vida. A raíz de esto ella permaneció en cuidados intensivos por aproximadamente 27 días. Desde entonces, ella ya no fue la misma, su salud comenzó a deteriorase rápidamente; dejó de caminar y dependía de una máscara para respirar. El amor incondicional y el apoyo que tuvo de sus padres, familiares y amigos, fueron la base para seguir librando la batalla.

Ella tocó la vida de muchos, pero especialmente la de su familia. Dilsy iluminaba cada día la vida de sus padres, quienes la rodearon de todo su amor, sintiéndose muy orgullosos de lo increíble, talentosa y amorosa niña que ella era. Quienes tuvimos el privilegio de conocer a Dilsy, recordaremos y extrañaremos su dulce carácter, su sonrisa y buen ánimo, pese a su condición de salud.

Ella, se adelantó a muchos de nosotros, dejando hermosos recuerdos a sus padres, Fermín y María; sus hermanos, Ronald, Marely y Yoshi Marilyn; su tía Linda, sus primas Maricruz y Michel; su primo, Kenneth; su madrina Claudia, la familia Leal, Martínez y Valladares, así como muchos familiares y amigos. No hay duda de que Dilsy, cambió nuestras vidas de manera positiva, mostrándonos mucha fortaleza en momentos difíciles.

Sus padres están más que agradecidos de haber tenido una hija que con tan solo 14 años, impactó la vida de muchos. Ellos agradecen a todos por no dejar que Dilsy luchará sola. También agradecen por todo el apoyo moral y económico que les ha permitido despedir de manera digna a su dulce ángel.

Una visita para despedirse de Dilsy y expresar sus condolencias a la familia, se llevará a cabo el sábado 30 de mayo del 2020 de 1:15 a 3:00 p.m. en el Cementerio Memory Gardens 2600 Muscatine Avenue, Iowa City, Iowa. El entierro se llevará a cabo a las 3:00 p.m.

Dilsy M. Gutierrez, 14, of Iowa City passed away suddenly May 17, 2020 from complications related to Muscular Dystrophy, a condition she lived with for 14 years.

Dilsy was born on December 20, 2005 in Iowa City to Fermín Gutiérrez and Maria Borjas, and had three siblings Ronald, Marely and Yoshi Marilyn. Dilsy went to Hills Elementary School and was loved by her teachers and classmates for the student and friend she was. At the time of her death she was an 8th grade student at Northwest Junior High, where she was given endless support.

Despite her physical limitations, she was a brave, smart and dynamic kid who fought to live as normal a childhood as possible. This helped her family and friends stay strong as devastated as they were to see Dilsy battle the disease. Though she was diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy as a child, Dilsy could walk by age two and eventually was able to ride a bike with her friends. Anything that Dilsy could do with her hands, she did, especially painting, which was one of her many creative talents.

Dilsy’s life was changed forever after an unnecessary test that almost killed her. As a result, she was transferred to the intensive care unit where she stayed for about 27 days. Since that day, her health never seemed to be the same as it was before. She was unable to walk or breathe without a mask. The unconditional love and support she had from her parents, family and friends were the foundation to continue battling her illness.

She touched the lives of so many but especially her family. Dilsy was the light of her parents’ lives. Their irreplaceable love for their girl’s happiness leaves them smiling through their tears. They are so proud of the incredible, talented, and loving little girl she was. Knowing Dilsy meant knowing her sweetness, and that is who she will be remembered for. She spread her love and laughter everywhere she went and will be missed terribly.

She leaves behind her parents, Fermin and Maria; three siblings, Ronald, Marely and Yoshi Marilyn; her aunt, Linda; her cousins, Maricruz, Michel and Kenneth; her Godmother Claudia, and family Martínez, Leal and Valladares, as well many other family members and friends whose lives are forever changed. Dilsy’s courage changed their lives showing them her strength in difficult moments.

The family is beyond grateful to have had a daughter who impacted the lives of so many. They want to thank everyone for never letting Dilsy fight alone and for the donations that have helped them say goodbye to their sweet angel.

A visitation to say goodbye to Dilsy and express your condolences to her family will be held Saturday May 30, 2020 at 1:15 until 3:00 p.m. at Memory Gardens Cemetery, 2600 Muscatine Avenue, Iowa City, Iowa. Burial will be at 3:00 p.m.
