SUMMONED AT MIDNIGHT
Mrs. Roscoe Ayers, formerly Miss Rose Gatens, died Saturday night, near midnight, after an attack of influenza which later developed into pneumonia.

Mrs. Ayers was born in Tipton, Cedar county, Iowa, December 28, 1895 and was graduated from St. Patrick’s School in 1912 with honors, receiving a scholarship for the State University. She attended the Home Economics Department of the university, and has been a successful teacher.

She was married to Roscoe B. Ayers April 25, 1916, at St. Patrick’s church. Besides the grief stricken husband, she leaves a little son, Roscoe, Jr., her father and mother, Mr. & Mrs. J. H. Gatens, five sisters, Nell, Grace, Mary, Elaine, and Anna; two brothers, Leo of Cedar Rapids, and another brother, Raymond J., a soldier at Camp Sherman, Chillicothe, Ohio. The hearts of those who loved her as a friend and teacher are saddened today at her untimely taking away.

The funeral was held at 9:30 today, at the home on south Summit Street with interment in St. Joseph’s cemetery.

Mrs. Roscoe B. Ayers, wife of a young lumber merchant, formerly a resident of West Liberty, died after a eek’s battle with the dread disease. She was about 23. Her twin babies died a few months ago.
