Simon Frauenholz, a pioneer of Iowa City, is dead here, in his seventy-first year. He had been a resident of Iowa City since he was a lad of 14. He was one of the men who were almost miraculously saved from a terrible death when the Crowley quarries were torn to pieces by an explosion west of the Iowa River, here, 33 years ago. Surviving are his widow, a daughter and two sons – Mrs. John Schuppert and James Frauenholz, Iowa City; and Joseph Frauenholz, West Branch. One sister, Mrs. Lydia Wells of Cedar Rapids; and five brothers, Joseph, Minnesota; and Thomas, Frank, John, and James, of Iowa City also survive.
