PROMISING YOUNG LIFE IS ENDED
Allan Barry died this morning at eight o’clock of pneumonia following little more than a week’s illness. He lacked but a week of completing his seventeenth year and was a junior in St. Patrick’s high school. He leaves his sorrow stricken parents, Mr. & Mrs. Dan Barry of east Washington St., two brothers and one sister. Of these there is Dr. Barry, a graduate of S.U.I. in dentistry, now at Camp Logan near Denver; Robert now, seriously ill, also of pneumonia, at Camp Dodge and Marie in the service of Uncle Sam in Washington D.C.
His father is now at the bedside of Robert who is reported worse this morning. Mrs. Barry, now that Allan has passed beyond all comfort that she could render him has hurried on to Des Moines to do anything she can to save the other son so grievously ill.
Allan was a grandson of “Jimmie” the veteran custodian of Iowa field. His father is one of Iowa City’s oldest and best esteemed postmen. To all these so direly weighed down hosts of friends extend most sincere sympathy.
Allan leaves a memory green with knightly courtesy and Christian manliness. His funeral will be announced later.
