WILLIAM REED DEAD FROM APOPLEXY TODAY
William Reed, of Coralville dropped dead from apoplexy about 11 o’clock this morning, in the yard of the Whetstone place on the west side. One of the neighbors, Dean W. J. Teeters, was the first to discover the body. Death had evidently been instantaneous.Mr. & Mrs. Reed had been staying for the last two weeks, with the latter’s sister, Mrs. Hattie Whetstone, at the old Byington homestead. This was preliminary to a trip south, where the three expected to spend the winter. Mrs. Reed is a daughter of the late Lerand Byington and a sister of Senator O.A. Byington.
Mr. Reed was seventy years old. He came to Iowa City in 1886 from Delavan, Ills. and engaged in farming near Coralville until he retired a number of years ago. He was a good citizen and a good neighbor, and his sudden death brings sorrow to many friends. He leaves his widow and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Wolf of Iowa City, and Mrs. Andrew Wolf of Detroit.
The funeral will be held at the Whetstone residence Thursday afternoon and will be private.
