This afternoon at four thirty at the Mortuary occurred the funeral of the lamented Mabel Bowen Edwards. The Rev. S. E. Ellis of the Methodist church officiated and the burial was in Oakland cemetery in the family lot.
Mabel Bowen was the elder daughter of George and Frances Meardon Bowen and was born here October 17, 1884. She grew to young womanhood here and married Lery E. Edwards, who was a student in engineering when she attended the university. She died at Horlowton, Mont November 2 of heart failure brought on by an attack of influenza.
Noted as she was among her friends for her sweetness and gentleness of character the news of the death of Mabel Edwards brings sincere grief to her many friends in her old home.
Aside from her husband she leaves three young children to mourn the early death of a devoted mother. The children are Grace, aged eight years; Helen Gertrude, six years of age; and a baby boy whose age is two and a half years. Her father lives in California and her only sister is Mrs. Percy Meardon of Haswell, Colo. F. W. Meardon and Mrs. H.A. Knease of Iowa City are an uncle and aunt respectively. The late C.W. Meardon was also an uncle.
