EARLY PIONEER DIED YESTERDAY
Edward Casey, sr., died suddenly at the home of his daughter, Ms. Thomas Farrell yesterday morning at 9 o’clock of a weakened heart, probably due to the effects of influenza.

Mr. Casey has for years lived at the Farrell home on Summit Street and three weeks ago was taken down with influenza. He survived this and had been out and about town several times recently. He was down town just the evening before his death. Thursday morning he was taken suddenly and died in a few minutes from heart trouble.

Early Pioneer
Mr. Casey’s life has been linked closely with the progress of Johnson County. Born in Iowa City, February 2, 1852, he spent his entire life here. At the age of 22 he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Ann Cuneen and to this union a family of eight were born and reared to manhood and womanhood, constituting one of the best and most favorably known families in the county. Mrs. Casey passed away to her reward twenty one years ago.

In an early day Mr. Casey acquired a splendid farm in Scott Township, just east of Iowa City which is still the family home and has been made famous as the home of Casey Brothers who have developed one of the greatest collections of Percheron horses in this part of the west. Always a great lover of good horses, Mr. Casey has many years been instrumental in the development of the Percheron breed and in deference to this quality his family has arranged that all vehicles in the funeral cortege shall be horse drawn.

The Family
Deceased is survived by a family of five sons and three daughters all of who make their home in this community. The sons are – Edward, Sr., whose home is on the old farm in Scott Township; Bernard of Union Township; Stephen, former county attorney of Johnson County, recently resigned on account of his health; William of Scott Township and Lawrence who is now in the Great Lakes Training school. The daughters are: Ms. Thos. Farrell of this city, Mrs. Fred Barnes of this city, and Miss Ann Casey, for several years a teacher in the old Third ward school, but now of the Longfellow school.

Funeral Saturday
Funeral will be private at the Farrell Home, 634 South Summit at ten o’clock Saturday morning. Rev. Shannahan officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph’s.
