YOUNG WIFE CALLED SUDDENLY TODAY
A host of people were shocked to learn this morning that Mrs. Raymond Slavata (Loretta Welsh) had been summoned at 4:30 this morning. She had been ill only since Monday with pneumonia.

She was the youngest daughter of Mr. & Mrs. John Welsh. Her father was for many years county sheriff. October 3, 1915 she was married to Raymond Slavata at St. Patrick’s church and her death leaves the young merchant sadly bereft. Aside from her parents she is survived by two sisters and one brothers. The sisters are Mrs. Cerny, wife of Major J. W. Cerny, stationed at Brooklyn, N.Y., Mrs. John Donahue, wife of the well-known undertaker, and Mrs. Roy Cole. The brother is Sergt. John W. Welsh. It will be recalled that he had already set sail on a transport when an epidemic of influenza broke out on the ship. Therefore the Captain turned back to port. This enabled the brother to be here with the sister a day before she died.

The funeral will be held Monday afternoon. In accordance with the health regulations the services will be private.
Mrs. Slavata grew to womanhood in this city and was a graduate of St. Agatha’s. She was possessed of a lovely voice and her singing had given delight to many. She held the office of recording secretary in the D. Of I. Possessed of a charming personality as she was she had endeared herself to a legion of friends who will miss her sadly. To the young husband, one of the foremost of Iowa City’s younger business men, goes out the heartfelt sympathy of the community.
